Critical Reflection

This module MEC 1281 Effective Communication has taught me how to correctly write a formal letter of introduction, executive summary, an official report as well as how to be confident and present myself in front of my classmates. Although not having the chance to have a presentation to other people from other classes, this allowed me to improve my upfront speaking skills. This module also gave me an insight into how a formal technical report needs to be written, which will be helpful for my future final year project report write-up. Having a time limit to pitch our ideas to each of our team members has allowed me to know how to give a short and to-the-point speech which may help me in my future work if I want to pitch an idea for my final year project or higher-ups. The letter of introduction has taught me how to express myself positively by talking about my personal goal and what I would like to achieve in this module. As this module comes to an end, I am glad to say that I did achi

In the published patent “Magnetic Child Safety Cabinet Lock” Wang (2019) invented a magnetic lock to prevent children from rampaging through cabinets, as babies grow older, they tend to run around the house and open cabinets, the refrigerator. This invention uses a belt that is strapped around the handlebars of the cabinet that needs to be locked and tighten to prevent children from unwanted dangers. In order to release the strap, a key with magnet needs to be inserted where there is another magnet in the keyhole. This releases a push-button when pressed it releases the strap by separating the teeth from the groove. This article highlights the use of a specific magnetic key which is used to release a push-button which helps our group research into magnetic locks. This patent provides a useful platform for our research project on the use of a magnetic lock for the Garmin device mount. The magnetic lock that our team plans to improve on provides a sense of security for the cyclists

Technical Report Draft - 1

Background According to Garmin website (Garmin, n.d -a) the Garmin Edge 830 is not only a bicycle navigation device but it also provides performance monitoring for cyclist training and recovery. One reason why cyclists do not want to use their phones for navigation is that it drains the battery of the phone, and when the cyclist receives a phone call, the screen is changed to reflect the details of the caller, taking precedence over the navigation screen. ‘ This is the reason why a ”customer wants a product that fits one purpose, something they can put up on their big screen”(Taub, 2015). Garmin ( n.d. -b) also states that there are three different mounts that the Edge 830 can provide. The standard mount included in the box has two rubber straps that are used to strap around the bike stem connected to the rubber disc which holds the Garmin Edge.  The second and third mounts provided by Garmin are external mounts that need to be bought, both of the mounts use screws to hold

Self Introduction (Final Draft)

Subject: Self-introduction to professor Brad Blackstone. Dear professor Blackstone, I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Engineering with Honors in Mechanical Engineering. Previously coming from Institute of Technical Education (ITE), I achieved Higher NITEC in Mechanical Engineering with an achieving mindset I departed from ITE to Singapore polytechnic Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering direct second year. After graduating from polytechnic, I had some time to think about which course to choose to pursue in the different universities in Singapore. After seeing the courses available in the university Singapore Institute of Technology and having a background in mechanical engineering, I decided to continue my studies in mechanical engineering. The reason why I did not continue my studies in aerospace is because, what I learned in Singapore polytechnic is mainly specialized in the aerospace industries, which is very in-depth. Compared to that, what I will learn in mechani

In the article entitled "Force-Sensing Gloves Cloud Control An iPhone By Detecting Gestures and How Objects Are Gripped," Owen (2019) mentions that Apple wanted to create a glove technically capable of engaging with technologies for individuals. This glove is made of fabric meshed with conductive layers that sense the forces applied in the glove when the user touches a surface. In addition, this glove will detect how much pressure is applied and the number of fingers used. The author also states that Apple will look at different ways a user can control an application without interacting with the touchscreen. The glove will include conductive strands that are woven together with normal threads and thus able to monitor contact outside while the inside contains sensors for compression from the fingers. Owen also adds that it opens opportunities to replace handheld controllers in VR and AR. While Owen provides substantial details on what material is incorporated in the glov
